AUSTRALIA
I grew up in Adelaide. have always loved music and singing, and as a girl I sang in church choir. In my early teen years, I received a scholarship at Scotch College for my final two years of high school. I left home at 17yrs to travel and work around Australia and eventually settled in Brisbane to undertake higher studies. After completing my Bachelor of Science (UQ), I was employed as medical scientist by the Princess Alexandra Hospital in the Clinical Physiology laboratory. I then moved into Student Administration and Database Management at QUT; where I also studied for a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Computing at QUT.
VIENNA 1991-2003
In my 30s, I went to Europe on holidays and ended up living and working in Vienna for 10+ years. I worked with United Nations, US computer manufacturer, Lomography community, Vienna Insurance... in positions of administration, quality assurance, database and application support etc.
I became interested in Sound and Music Therapy and attended many workshops. I completed a Diploma in Multidisciplinary Art Therapy (which included painting, drumming, singing, theatre, photography, dream work and creative writing). For my final project I designed and coordinated a 3mth project called "Kinderstimmen" at a progressive high school. I worked in collaboration with English, Art and Music teachers who helped the students create cultural masks, percussion instruments, costumes and group artworks. I introduced the students to music, stories and chants from around the world. This project culminated in a public theatre production that was performed in a cathedral.
I had many wonderful experiences during the 90s in Europe; including studying with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies (Michael Harner/Sandra Ingerman), and attending an intensive Naked Voice retreat in Wales with Chloë Goodchild. I auditioned and trained as a hospital clown with CliniClowns Austria and was paid to visit children's wards to bring colour, magic and laughter to the children on their recovery journey. I founded the "Verein zur Foerderung des Lachens" to promote more widely the healing benefits and practice of laughter (this was before Laughter Yoga became a thing). I studied "Old Oriental Music Therapy" with Prof. Dr. Rahmi Oruc Guvenc, who was a Sufi master, music therapist, ethnomusicologist, composer and poet. I collected sound healing instruments, learnt to play conga, and discovered the work of Layne Redmond and her Mob of Angels. I handcrafted my own stringed instrument in the tuning of Rudolf Steiner and was invited to assist the music therapist at the Steiner School. After singing in several community choirs, I became interested in Gregorian chant and then the medieval music of Hildegard von Bingen. I joined up with two musicians to offer a sacred music program of Hildegard chants with sound healing soundscapes. After my sister died of cancer in Australia, I completed a hospice training and regularly visited a local hospice centre to sing and play music.
AUSTRALIA 2003
Upon returning to Australia, I started leading an informal song circle in my house on Coochiemudlo Island to share spiritual chants from around the world. I was inspired to search out and connect with all the local musicians living on the island. I organised and performed in a monthly "Music by the Sea" event series; which featured the work of local artists, a solo multimedia performance I created on the life of Hildegard, a collaborative chorale workshop, a choir of guest Bulgarian singers, children's Christmas program and more.
NEW ZEALAND / POLAND / INDIA/NEPAL 2004-2022
in 2004, I moved to New Zealand to pursue contemplation and meditation, and served as full-time volunteer for over 5yrs in a spiritual community. In 2006, I lived for a year as a full-time volunteer at a meditation retreat/organic farm in rural Poland.
I started travelling to India to learn more about the Vedic culture, and in 2012 was invited to volunteer fulltime at a charitable mission in Haridwar. During my 10yrs in India, I studied the practice of yoga postures, Sanskrit pronunciation, yoga philosophy, music, sound yoga & mantra meditation. I enjoyed running several creative projects with the village children; including an art competition and learning about the five elements, as well as a theatrical dance production about the holy Ganges river where we lived.
During the time of the COVID pandemic in India, I studied online with Christine Stevens (Healing Rhythms), Marla Leigh (Frame Drum Academy) and Miranda Rondeau (student of Layne Redmond). I enjoyed creating home-recorded mantra soundscape in my room at the Haridwar ashram and have uploaded some of them to Bandcamp as "Voice of Yoga". During a five month stay in Kathmandu, I created my own Frame Drum Kirtan teaching platform on Thinkific under the name of "Myth-Muse-Mantra".
AUSTRALIA 2022+
Back in Australia since 2022 (after being overseas for 30 years), I am discovering ways to share with community, whatever I have learnt and experienced along my journey. I am now trained to facilitate Sing to Thrive community singing groups, Sing the Body Electric sonic anatomy & vital voice explorations; as well as Rhythm2Recovery drum therapy circles. I started off 2025 by recording a Mantra Sound Healing album with a professional sound engineer. Excited to take this to the next level with VocalVibe!
